Tears of Persephone

What is it?

Tears of Persephone is a cut-throat social deduction game for 5 to 12 players lasting 40-60 minutes per game. Players take on the roles of a ruthless king, his loyal rich farmers and a group of secretly rebellious peasants. The farmers will hide grains to feed their family and find clues to acquire information about each other while informing (or misinforming) the King about their findings. In the mean time, the King will have to figure out who to trust, then investigate and punish the people that have wronged him. Will enough peasants survive to successfully organize a rebellion or will the King sniff them out and quell the usurpers?

What makes it special?

1. Tears of Persephone is a social game in the sense that the core of the game is driven by players talking to each other. 2. Simultaneous action. Most actions in the game happen simultaneously so players don't have to wait forever for their turn. 3. Tears of Persephone is a thematic game that tells a story a group of people under authoritarian dictatorship. Unlike Werewolf or Resistance where the decision process is democratic, there is only one King in Tears of Persephone. 4. Fun. The theme of the game is dark and gritty, but the game play is still well paced and engaging. Players will have to make many meaningful choices to achieve victory. How much grain do I hide? What action should I take? Should I try to cover for someone? Who should I spy on? Should I lie and will my lie conflict with someone else's testimony? So many decisions wrapped in a little package.

Time to harvest!

That all sounds all very wonderful and interesting...in theory, but it doesn't sound very balanced game, how do you actually play it?

Take Action!

That’s why I am here! We have created a prototype and play tested the game, and it was really fun. After many revisions we think we are ready for other people to test it out and hear some honest feedback.

So our next steps are:

1. Make our rulebook clear and concise.

2. Solicit testing through demo copies and PnP.

3. Get feed back and make changes to the game, some of which we are already testing internally (various player roles, quotas, etc).

4. Repeat step 1-3 until we have a kick-ass game.

If you are interested in playtesting for us, send me an email at Daiderekwu@gmail.com and I will keep you in loop!
