Happy First Annual Table Top Day

I hope you all made time to celebrate March 30, 2013, the first annual Table Top Day, there really are few things in the world better than sitting down with your family and friends to share a moment of stressful bliss together.

We all should give a big thank to the people who were behind this event. I am talking about, of course, Felicia Day, Wil Wheaton and rest of the gang at Geek & Sundry. I think the work they've been doing have been incredibly innovative and brave, not to mention done with great care and attention to detail. I love the Table Top series they've put out. The combination of amazing games, quirky guests and unpredictable drama really makes the show stand out from every other web show out there.

I remember when I first stumbled into Episode 1 - Small World. Truthfully, I didn't expect much, there just weren't many greatly produced web series' out there, but the show completely blew me away. I remember thinking to myself afterwards "Wow, I need to buy this game". And trust me, that exact thought popped up after almost every Table Top Game I watched. I don't know how many of you out there felt this way but it took incredible amount of will power not to blow my money on a newly introduced game every other week. I know I was not the only one because, well, look at this:

See that big bump from April through May? That's all from this little web series. According Wil's interview with LA Times, the week after they aired the Zombie Dice episode, the game sold 30,000 copies and had to go into a second printing. Talk about influence. I personally cannot wait until the second season of table top to start, my only concern is my wallet.

If you missed out on the first annual Table Top Day, do not fret. With the rise of Kickstarter, board game on tablets and 3-d printing, the board game industry is evolving at an amazing pace with a bright future ahead of it. Designers are producing and selling their products easier than ever before, and for the customers, a variety of games are accessible like never before. All in all, good times ahead.
